The Kiwanis Aquatics Centre and Grantham branch of the St. Catharines Public Library, to be constructed at Lester B. Pearson Park at Carlton Street and Niagara Street, is the first municipal facility in the City to follow the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program and will meet a minimum of LEED Silver certification. The centre will be approximately 48,000 square feet with 7,000 square feet allocated to the library.
The total anticipated budget for this project is $19.57 million. The Government of Ontario has contributed $4.5 million under the Municipal Infrastructure Investment Initiative (MIII).
It's always great to see something being built from almost scratch to finish....
It was suppose to be done in just over a year (construction started on June 10, 2010 with completion goal originally set for September, 2011), now they are predicting Spring of 2012.
The soon to be parking lot. You know how it is here in Canada.. we have to have TONS of parking space, lol.
There's a park right behind it. As a matter of fact, it is ALL a park where people can go for picnics, school teams play soccer, and little ones can play on the playground where all the swings, monkey-bars, etc. are. The land is so huge, that everything is still there but now with this huge aquatic and library centre building amongst it! Off in the distance you can see a residential building.
Stay tuned for the completion, lol.
